How Do I Post A Picture In My WP Blog?

Filed under: Tutorials - abet @ 3:16 pm

Posting a picture with your WP Blog (like this one) is as easy as biting into a pie — even if you’re just wearing pustisos. You can do either of two things. Post a picture remotely, that is, use an external website where you have uploaded your pictures and reference these from your blog. Or upload a picture directly into your WP installation, and let WP itself give you the codes for referencing it.
Take this photo for example:

Just a sample photo. This photo is uploaded somewhere in the directories of this blog application. What I did was:

What Materials Can I Use For Blogging?

Filed under: Tutorials - abet @ 10:40 am

So what can one blog about?  There are a lot of materials out there, just waiting to be used in a blog.  For a picture blog, one can use photos.  One can also use emails received, especially when these give the occassion for doing a personal research on the subject.  Still, somebody else’s blog can be the occassion for additional commentary.  The other day, for example, I read a blog about Hardee’s Moster Thickburger.  A lot of Filipinos haven’t heard of it yet, but what if this growing fast food chain reaches Philippine shores?  Just the thought should make one tremble especially since the food it provides is really junk.  Still, of course, the best materials come from one’s experiences.  One may blog about one’s dog, or even one’s birthday celebration!  The possibilities are endless!  Just look at the present blog, for example.  It is made up of links to other blogs!

How Many Kinds of Blogs Are There?

Filed under: Tutorials - abet @ 11:28 pm

How many kinds of blogs are there?
If by "kinds" you mean a clearly defined structure that is discernible in a blog making it distinguishable from another one and allows for categorization,  there isn’t one yet.  However, if one would categorize blogs according to the more dominant elements one finds in it, then one can perhaps consider the following "types"

  • link blog - a blog that contains a link or more than one link and descriptions of each.
  • moblog - a blog created through a mobile phone and usually is made up of pictures
  • daily blog - a daily update about the author’s life: hobbies, school/work life
  • news/politics blog - blogs that comment on news and political events
  • war blog - one of the older types of blogs; these are updates from the trenches
  • programmer’s blog - updates on what a programmer is doing with a software that he/she is creating.
The above is not an exhaustive list.  I am aware that there may be more, perhaps you can find them out yourself.

Blogging shouldn’t be a difficult thing to do especially since it does have the same requirements for formal writing. But as in formal writing, one needs good examples to emulate. Here are a few bloggers whose work I admire:

Gmail Invites

Filed under: Announcements - abet @ 10:22 pm

I was just informed of four Gmail accounts that need users.  If you are interested, just go here, make a comment (include your email) and wait for the invitation.  Gmail is a 1 Gig email account, is free, and is unique in the way it handles your mail.  Why don’t you try it so that you’d understand why it is causing a revolution in email.

You ask me, "Why do you blog?" Respondeo:
I started out on the web writing tutorials for people I meet and hope would read me online and for others whom I’ve never met but who ask questions that I felt I had the competence to answer. It was this that prompted me to build up my first tutorial website. (more…)

What is a blog? Why do people blog? How does blogging help anyone become a better person? What benefits do one derive from blogging?
These are questions that aren’t easy to answer, so I’ll just give you links to those who have:

DigiTyped gives you a first hand experience of what blogging is using WordPress as your blogging tool. If you feel that you can’t still work within WordPress as the top brass (that is level 10, or admin), then make DigiTyped your traning ground. If you already have some experience with WordPress or some other blogging tool and you wish to go on at it alone, then go to WordPressBlogs . You may also go directly to BlogSome. (There is another WordPress blogging site that I don’t recommend though: BlogThing. I don’t recommend it for the moment because it is still buggy.).

If you join DigiTyped as a member, I can be your guide. You may post, but only something that you can show your dad and mom or your friends, or the other people who care about you. Please feel free to register. Joining is easy and free.
